How Rival is played
Rules
Rival is a whitelisted roleplay server. These rules exist so scenes stay fair, characters stay consistent, and staff are not guessing what you meant.
Conduct
Out of character behaviour still matters.
- Treat other players as people. Harassment, hate speech and targeted abuse are not tolerated.
- Keep OOC chat for OOC things. Do not use it to steer a scene.
- If a scene is going nowhere, pause it and talk it out. Do not ruin it to “win”.
- Staff decisions are not a debate in public. Use a ticket or the proper appeal route.
Roleplay
Play your character. Do not play the server.
- Stay in character in the city. If you need to talk OOC, do it properly.
- Your actions should match your character, not your knowledge as a player.
- Fear RP is expected. Your character is not immortal and not always the main character.
- Do not force a scene onto someone who is clearly not part of it.
- Low-effort or joke characters will not be whitelisted. Rival is not a meme server.
Combat and crime
- Random deathmatch and vehicle deathmatch are not allowed. Violence needs a reason that exists in the scene.
- Initiation should be clear. People need a chance to react before you start shooting.
- Crime should still leave room for police roleplay. Hit and run chaos is not a gang story.
- Do not use game mechanics to escape a scene you lost. No combat logging.
- New-life rule applies after you are downed or killed. Your character does not remember the events that led to it.
Metagaming and powergaming
- Discord, streams and OOC chats are not in-character knowledge.
- Do not use information your character did not earn in the city.
- Do not force outcomes. Other players get to respond.
- Fail RP includes ignoring injuries, cuffs, valid roleplay and obvious scene context.
Characters
- Names, backstories and jobs should fit a serious UK city. Leave the celebrity copies and superhero lore at the door.
- One player, one scene. Do not hop characters to get around a situation.
- If a character is banned, retired or killed in a way that ends them, that story is finished.
Reports and staff
- Record scenes you think will be reported. A clip helps more than a paragraph of anger.
- Do not sit in Discord accusing people while a scene is still running.
- Ban appeals and player reports will live in Rival Support. Until that is live, use the Discord process staff have posted.
